Era Presentations
I have learned so much this past week through the era presentations. The most interesting fact that I learned was how occupational therapy was effected by World War II. I was very shocked to hear that in 1943 the war emergency courses changed the 18 month OT course to a two week course.
I also enjoyed getting to learn about how things were during the 1970s from researching my own project. The 1990s also had some connections to the 70s based on legislation and the changes that were made to existing legislation. The 1990 the Americans with Disabilities Act that was put into action by George H.W. Bush, was one of those pieces of legislation because it established its standards based off the 1973 Rehabilitation Act. The 1991 IDEA was based on the 1975 Education for all Handicapped Children act and it established a setting for handicapped children to learn in the least restrictive setting in school. The era presentations this past week were very informative and I enjoyed getting to learn about the historical events that formed the path for occupational therapy.
